Contribution des fouilles récentes à la connaissance de l’édifice monumental dit des “thermes” de la rue Arthur Ranc à Poitiers (Vienne)
Abstract
Excavation work covering 400 m² allowed us to further our knowledge of an important building located in the middle of the western area of the roman town of Poitiers, where the main monuments were built at the end of the ist century p.C. The work effectuated uncovered a heated room. In addition, the angle southwest of the building can be interpreted as an area concentrating thermal rooms. This reinforces therefore the hypothesis of baths issued in 1982. Further work has been carried out concerning technical details such as the adjustments to the slope. Beyond the functional analysis, studies of marbles and mortar bring information on the themes of the economy of supply for this type of building.
400 m² a permis de compléter les connaissances sur un édifice situé au coeur de la partie ouest du plateau antique de Poitiers, secteur voué à la monumentalisation à la fin du 1er s. p. C. Les nouvelles données ont permis d'identifier une pièce chauffée. De ce fait, l'angle sudouest du bâtiment peut être interprété comme une zone comprenant des pièces thermales. Ceci conforte donc l'hypothèse de bains émise en 1982. En outre, un complément d'étude relatif aux programmes techniques mis en oeuvre a été réalisé. Au-delà de l'analyse fonctionnelle, les études des marbres et des mortiers apportent des informations sur la thématique de l'économie d'approvisionnement pour ce type de construction.
