This volume documents the key period between two moments in our history: the Bronze Age and the Second Iron Age. Paradoxically, this period, the First Iron Age, which lasted nearly four centuries, had not yet benefited from updated or in-depth studies of habitat systems or modes of resource exploitation. However, the synthesis of data from national surveys conducted by INRAP has allowed us to distinguish notable changes in relation to the models initiated at the end of the Bronze Age, particularly north of the Loire ‒ the emergence of new grouped habitats, variously enclosed, associated with elevated storage buildings. This evolution was part of a new agropastoral organisation whose impact on the environment can be measured. This work follows the publication of RA 7 "The rural dwelling of the Second Iron Age: Rhythms of creation and abandon north of the Loire" and RA 12 "Habitat and land use in the Bronze Age and early Iron Age".

Ce volume vient documenter la période charnière entre deux moments de notre histoire : l’âge du Bronze et le second âge du Fer. Paradoxalement, cette période, le premier âge du Fer, qui dure près de quatre siècles, ne bénéficiait pas encore d’études actualisées et approfondies des systèmes d’habitat et des modes d’exploitation des ressources. La synthèse des données issue des enquêtes nationales menées par l’Inrap a permis de distinguer de notables évolutions par rapport aux modèles initiés à la fin de l’âge du Bronze et particulièrement au nord de la Loire, l’émergence de nouveaux habitats regroupés, diversement enclos, associés à des bâtiments de stockage sur poteaux. Cette évolution participe d’une nouvelle organisation agro-pastorale dont on peut commencer à mesurer l’impact qu’elle a eu sur l’environnement. L’ouvrage fait suite à la publication du numéro 7 « L’habitat rural du second âge du Fer. Rythmes de création et d’abandon au nord de la Loire » et à celle du numéro 12 « L’habitat et l’occupation des sols à l’âge du Bronze et au début du premier âge du Fer ».
