Diagnostic et fouilles de bâti à Embrun (Hautes-Alpes)

Abstract : Mentioned since the beginning of the 12th century, the archiepiscopal palace of Embrun was restructured around 1240. The Brune Tower, the only monumental vestige of this medieval palace, has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1927, while the entire palace has been listed since 2005 (ISMH). Two owners share this vast building: the central body historically belongs to the City of Embrun, which has given the south wing to a real estate restoration operator. Each has two distinct rehabilitation projects: the creation of a CIAP (Center for the Interpretation of Architecture and Religious Heritage), for the first; the development of prestigious apartments, for the group François 1er Rénovation. A preventive diagnosis was prescribed in the central body of the palace, in 2018, while an order of direct preventive excavation was taken in the south wing, in 2019. The diagnosis concerned all the interior elevations of the central body. It was accompanied by underground surveys in the courtyard of honor, while the excavation focused only on the decrepit facades of the south wing, made accessible by scaffolding. The poster will present the strategies implemented in these two operations entrusted to Inrap, with regard to the objectives of each prescription.
