Pour une approche géoarchéologique systématique du diagnostic : exemple du territoire lorrain

Abstract : For geoarchaeologist, diagnostic phase offers the possibility of studying soils and sediments in all their dimensions over an often large area of investigation that sometimes cuts across several pedo-sedimentary contexts. Organizational study of these sequences not only makes it possible to reveal the existence or absence of an archaeological site, but also to highlight the interactions between man and his environment on a wider geographical scale. The geoarchaeological approach must therefore be considered as a prerequisite to archeological survey, right from the preparatory phase of the operation. This article proposes to show how the study of soils and sediments provides new knowledge on the setting up of surface formations as well as on human-environment interactions based on a few selected examples from Lorraine.
