Reconstitution et mise en chauffe d’un four à chaux : S’interroger sur les découvertes en contexte archéologique

Abstract : The excavation in 2014 of a large modern lime kiln in the Jura department led Inrap agents to suggesting 2015 to the Guédelon team the construction of a lime kiln, followed by a cooking trial for four days. A total of 1.5 tons of lime was produced from a volume of limestone estimated at 16 m3. Observations on the cooking process and on the bearing of the kiln’s masonry during its temperature rise allowed us to consider the excavation of lime kilns in a significantly different way and to reconsider the interpretation of certain facts observed in the kiln.
