La romanisation de l’habitat urbain après la conquête : L’exemple des villes de Gaule Belgique et des Germanies

Abstract : The study of urban housing in the northern provinces of the Empire benefits from the proliferation of developer funded excavations. The amount of data now makes it possible to conduct a study on these housing facilities to try to identify distinctive features. Approximately 300 houses were studied according to several criteria: the materials and construction techniques used, the areas and the purposes of the rooms that could be considered as indicators of social status. These elements made it possible to establish a hierarchy of the dwellings encountered and to identify parallel evolutions in all the studied agglomerations.
